Janette and the Yummy Weekend

What was supposed to be a quick run to my ma's house to pick up some avocados this past weekend turned into a yummy fiesta. We arrived at just the right time. My sister was home... We hadn't eaten lunch.. She hadn't eaten lunch and so we decided to join rumbly tummies and go out for some good Chinese. However on our way to my sister's fave and ultra secret spot (this girl knows all the good places in Little Saigon), we ended up talking about Korean BBQ and decided to head there instead. All you can eat beef? Lovey's personal heaven!

It was sooo good and nothing like I remembered. My favorite part (aside from the brisket) was the spicy soy soup. It had just the right amount of kick. Mmmm! The whole experience was fantastic. So amazing, in fact, that it deserved an equally amazing dessert. My sister, of course, knew of a cute pastry place, so we headed there for some treats. She spoiled us ROTTEN giving Lovey and I a tray and some tongs to pick out whatever we fancied. Cool, right???!!

We saved our dessert for a later time and instead opted to go to another cute cafe (with suitcase seats) for some refreshing iced mango green tea. Mmmmm....

We had such a lovely time. For real.

Janette the Delayed Blogger

I appreciate all the kind words about the doodles I posted on Monday. You guys are soo nice. For real  Here's a photo version of my weekend... So late, but better than never... Such a bad blogger.. Urgh!

Weekends are too short....

Janette the Weekend Doodler

This was my weekend... Yup. I doodled. I think it had something to do with how overcast and cool it was on Saturday. I'm not sure. But I was  i n s p i r e d... So here's how the days unfolded...

And then Sunday....

Sunday was a 50-50 kind of day. It was great seeing Valery and getting to spend time with the fam...But I'm not a fan of Oktoberfest. I don't like beer, sauerkraut, or bratwurst... However, I am a fan of lederhosen and those feathery hats. See what I mean? 50-50.

I'll have real pictures for you soon.

Hope you had a good weekend!

PS. Don't judge. Be kind to my "art".  I wasn't an art major. Although I did take about 3 art history classes. Don't ask why cause I'm not sure.

Janette and The Good & Bad Weekend.

I had a good weekend. I had a bad weekend. I still can't decide if the good outweighed the bad. Saturday morning I woke up with major congestion, malaise, and general nastiness. A cold. Ugh. The byproduct of coloring, heads together, with my sick niece. Bah! But regardless, Lovey and I tried to make the most of our weekend cause I felt fine from my belly down. Ha! So after a day of complete couch rest (I took 3 naps!),we went to dinner and a short walk 'round town. Pumpkin spice lattes for dessert and window shopping at Cost Plus World Market was a nice way to end the night.
Sunday afternoon we went to an arboretum (dSLR pictures coming soon) and enjoyed the cool, Fall weather. NOT! It was 93 degrees! For reals? Wasn't it in the 60s and raining just 3 days ago??!!! (Don't get me started on the weather...) Oh but sweet foliage-induced felicity!!! Everything there was perfect and beautiful!

Trees, flowers, and a charbroiled burger? I take it back. I had it good. How was your weekend?

Janette and the Hairy Weekend!

The main reason I blog is to remember... I'm realizing I have a horrible memory the older I get. But blogging and taking pictures helps. A lot! This was one of those weekends I don't want to forget. Lovey and I had two dinner parties to celebrate the last days of Sukkot.  It was nice seeing our friends 2 days in a row. Yup!

The rest of our weekend was spent Fall-ifizing our home (more on that tomorrow), baking pumpkin stuff, and relaxing. That was the highlight of my weekend. I'm such a homebody. Home is where my heart is. Go outside?? WHY?????!

The other highlight was my hair. Gosh. I know. Shallow, right? But seriously, most of the time I wear my hair up.. Especially lately that it's been hot..But this weekend I was like, "Weeee! Be free! Be happy! Bask in the sunlight and fly, hair!" And it helps that I actually took the time to curl it a bit. Which is quite a feat if you knew how much hair I had.

Well okay.. That's enough about my hair....How was your weekend? ;-)

Janette the Busy Bee

It always feels weird for me to recap my weekend on any other day than Monday...But I really wanted to share my Fall Must Dos list before we were too far into fall..Know what I mean? Anywho. My weekend was kind of ho-hum. I did A LOT of chores and tasks around the house that I had been putting off for weeks! For example:

1. I mopped my kitchen floor (Despised chore of my life!)
2. Cleaned outdoor window sills (I lead an exciting existence huh?)
3. Cleaned ceiling fan blades. (Surely your weekend was better than this!)
4. Finished the other half of my cabinet display makeover thingy.
5. Scrubbed the tub. (2nd despised chore of my life!)

I felt really accomplished. I did. But it wasn't all bad and boring. I saw some friends too. So that was cool. You know what else made it good? The following:

So yeah. I'm golden right now...I don't have some dreaded chore looming over my head this week. Instead, I'm hoping to catch up on happier tasks like editing a family shoot and finishing a blog design. Yeah. Stuff like that. Here's to a good week, Lordwilling!

God bless you guys!

Janette the Weekend Recaper

HAPPY MONDAY AMIGAS! Hope you had a sunny, carefree weekend! I kind of did.. Just a little. It started out carefree and happy, but ended with a bout of busy-ness (photo shoot followed by get together at church), so now I'm EXHAUSTED. I really wanted to call in sick today. I'm that tired. But anywho...Here's a recap of what I did this weekend.. It's in chronological order..And I kind of wish it was in alphabetical order too! Haha! The highlight was having a pedicure (last summer pedi!) slash shopping extravaganza with my sister (Bought some bright yellow and forest green pants! Woo!)

So what'd you do this weekend? Highlights? Lowlights?

PS. Thanks to everyone's kind words on yesterdays post.. I feel a lot better after having IN & OUT, cuddle time with Lovey, ice cream, and a smooth shoot yesterday!

Janette the Productive, Insect-Luring Weekender

I'm not sure what's up lately, but Lovey and I have been super productive 'round the house on our days off. Even with this stubborn heat, we're gung-ho busy bees!  Laundry, gardening, ironing for days, writing postcards, catching up on emails, spraying for insects outside...We get it done! Argggh!! And speaking of insects, guys,  I'm like the stinkin' bug whisperer ovah hurr..

For some reason creepy critters just flock to me in droves. Or maybe it's because I'm more aware of them??  I've always had this uncanny skill of detecting spiders in the dark... It's really weird.. I can just see them... So the other day when we were hanging out in the dining room I suddenly see about 10 baby spiders parachuting from the ceiling in a unified and coordinated attack. (No one else saw them..) I FUUHHHREAKED out! But I didn't run away. No. I'm manly like that. I grabbed my sandals like a boss and started slapping those spiders silly!

Good riddance!

After that incident I've unfortunately discovered about 10 bug bites on my feet and legs. Spiders? I'm not sure... But all I can say is I'm on edge these days.. We took to spraying EVERYTHING with that Raid Bug Barrier stuff... I hope it works, cause HOT DOG, I can't take it anymore...Wearing socks, pants, and head scarves (I don't want spiders parachuting into my hair) in 90+ weather is most uncomfortable but oh so wise! Get this! Last night, during our Bible study, a pincher bug fell out of the SKY and landed in my shirt. In. My. Shirt.  Did I jump out of my chair like a nimble ninja and scream my head off? ALMOST! But no.  I got up calmly and said, "Uh...I'm sorry, I have to go shower now." And ran to the bathroom. Seriously! I can't take it anymore.. And the worst part of all this is that I'm the only one that's getting bit and attacked in our household. Ugh. Anyway.. enough about bugs... Here some images of my weekend...
Didn't go on that boat ride I mentioned on my Cool. Not Cool. Undecided. post. But that's okay! I got to eat a Bambleberry muffin! YUM!

So what'd you guys do?

PS. Have you read about the time I killed a spider with my bum? You should read that. It's entertaining.

Janette the Reminiscing Reorganizer

This weekend was spent reorganizing and rearranging things around the house. We got a few new (to us) pieces of furniture and had to get rid of old stuff. We even had a last minute garage sale where I made a whopping $5. WOO!!! (My brother-in-law fared a lot better, so it wasn't a total waste of time. Ha!) And in between all the hustle and bustle I unearthed treasures that caused me to pause, sit, and reminisce...

Wasn't Lovey the cutest? >.< What I wouldn't give to pinch those little cheekies! Eep! So adorable! And look at me being all sassy and Mexican! CUTE! Here's a picture of us from earlier this year...For comparison ;-)

Hope you all had a lovely weekend! Happy Monday!

Janette and the EVERYTHING weekend!

This weekend was EVERYTHING! Yes. EVERYTHING! I was busy...I was lazy...I relaxed... I stressed... I lounged....I worked...I did it all!  Here's how it started....Friday I was off of work and babysat my two nieces... I decided to take them to Chuck-E-Cheese cause it was hot as a muffin inside my house and I needed a kid-friendly air-conditioned facility, stat! So I whisked the babies (ages 3 & 6) away for an afternoon of over-priced pizza and games... I spent $40 there. Why and how?!!? I'm not sure. I'm blaming the glow-in-the-dark hand stamp they put on me at the entrance. I was very unreasonable and extravagant after that. At least the girls had fun, so I guess it was worth it.

After the cheesy pizza place, I met up with Lovey and his coworkers for some tacos. Me meeting Lovey's coworkers=Inner turmoil, stress, and anxiety. The situation felt super awkward on many levels,  Mainly, Lovey can't stop talking about me at work...So these strangers know everything about me. As a result,  I really felt like they had one-up on me. They know everything about me, but I'm meeting them for the first time (and I know very little about them)...Weird, right? All I can really say about the evening is that they were nice people and it wasn't as bad as I had envisioned... Take it as you will..

Saturday, after another afternoon at the library, Lovey and I went swimming at a friends' house. This friend (our newest fave person EVER!) was out of town and let us borrow his pool. It was the best pool-side experience of the summer! I mean... The whole place to ourselves? WOW! It was FANTASTIC! Well that is until we discovered paint coming off the sides and bottom of the pool creating a murky substance that left our feet white and cakey. Yuuuummy... Nothing like taking a dip in milky lead water,eh... As is expected,  we left soon after.  Day ruined??? NOT A CHANCE! That evening we took my parents out to a legit Persian restaurant, complete with live music, belly dancing, and Koobideh! You know what weirds me out a little though? Koobideh looks like poopy. It tastes the opposite of poopy(Not that I know what poopy tastes like) But for real.. Why can't they shape the beef differently? I'd take a kidney-shaped meat slab over a poopy-shaped one ANY DAY!

WOW! I said "poopy" like 10 times in the last paragraph. Sorry that won't happen again.. Okay.. Onward and forward...So Sunday was my lounging/work day. I pretty much started editing my last wedding shoot as soon as I woke up. Yeah. That picture that looks like I just rolled out of bed???? I took that at 3PM. I didn't even fix my bedhead until about 5 when I had to go run an errand. Raar! Poor Lovey who had to look at my lazy woman face all day. Sorry Lovey!:-/

So what'd you guys do? Tell me!

Janette the Swimming, Library Lover

So.. This morning hot coffee splattered on my face as I was getting into my car and I was late to work and I'm pretty sure my boss is being a grumpypants. (Did I mention my face was sunburned and that the coffee was more like lava? Oy!) Yet in spite of all this, I remain unphased, I had a pretty sweet weekend...I got to hang out in air-conditioned libraries and poolside all weekend. Woo! Nothing like taking a cool dip on a scorcher of a Sunday! Yup! Those were my highlights. Library and pool time. I like the smell of libraries. Don't you? Stuffy...stale air...Old books...Dust. Makes me want to write a term paper. I love it! So yeah.. Library and the pool.. That's what I did. Not too shabby, eh?

What'd you do?

Janette the Dog

Apparently, I have no shame and am completely okay with posting pictures of myself in a dog nose.. Go figure!? Anyway!
I hope you  guys had a relaxing, pool-side, cupcake eating kind of weekend! I did. And it was grand! Here's 10 things I did...(in no particular order)

1. Ate my weight in guacamole.
2. Went to a pool party at our friends' home.
3. Edited wedding pictures like a fiend!
4. Mourned the loss of my luscious lashes (some of the eyelash extensions started to fall out so I yanked the rest off)
5. Ouch!
6. Lovey and I had a yummy Sunday afternoon lunch at my parent's house.
7. I made quiche!
8. I hurt my back while swimming like a boss. Ha!
9. Ouch!
10. Made some killer lemony herb chicken! (The secret?? Steak seasoning!)

So what did you do? What were your weekend highlights? Lowlights?

Janette the Lover of San Diego (Part 2)

Okay...Yesterday I took a break from my San Diego extravaganza because I was guest posting over at Natalie's blog, Natalie Blair (check it out if you missed it). But where did I leave off?!!! Hmmm... Oh yeah! So... The majority of our morning was spent exploring Cabrillo Monument and Solana Beach, but after getting our fill of sand, sun, and surf we headed to Downtown San Diego for some lunch, stunning architecture, and colorful characters at Comicon..
And no Lovebear Family vacation is complete without an argument. Seriously. Lovey and I  argue every time while on holiday. Nothing major...Just some lame disagreement. The couple losing their temper on the sidewalk of a busy, touristy street??!? That's us. We're such fat kids too cause all our disagreements are regarding food. lol Seriously. It's sad, but funny. But what can I say? We're in love!
After downtown San Diego, we went to my second most favorite place ever, Balboa Park! Wow guys! That place is great! It's full of wonderful nooks and crannies... Just get off the main street and you'll find amazing little treats tucked away between the main attractions.

After walking the length of the park, we went to Old Town San Diego to shop, explore, and have dinner at our favorite restaurant, La Pinata (best steak ever!)

A sweet sunset stroll to end our day would've been amazing had we not already been walking around for 8+ hours...We were tired, full, happy, and just wanted to go back to our hotel and take a nice, long shower and sleep. Which is exactly what we did!
The next morning we slept in for a bit and went to T's Cafe in Solana Beach for brekky where I ate this:
And finally, our drive home.......It was full of sunshine, sea-views, and happy memories to carry us home...Happy Anniversary to me & Lovey!

Janette the Lover of San Diego (Part 1)

Lovey and I had a wedding anniversary weekend getaway (last weekend) in the lovely city of San Diego.  (I. Love. San. Diego!) And it wasn't really our anniversary. Our 4 year anniversary is this week, but we're just over achievers and like to start early on celebrations and stuff.

Here's a pic-summary recap of our entire trip. It was a surf and turf kind of extravaganza. We visited beaches and the city city... with lots of yummy food in between. Amazing right?

First we started out at Solana Beach at the kind recommendation of some lovely friends. And really...it wasn't too dangerous... (chuckles nervously)
We swam ...Scratch that... Lovey swam in the ocean for a bit... I waded up to my secrets cause I was too chicken to dunk my goodies and head in the water.. Too too cold guys!  (Oh! And don't be overly jealous of our beach home okay?) Bahaha! ;-)
After some short sun bathing at the beach, we drove to my most favorite place of all time in San Diego, the Cabrillo National Monument. I get so giddy at places with majestic 360 degree views...In love right here:
Not only is Cabrillo Monument home of the......Cabrillo Monument...It's also the lucky location of one of 8 lighthouses in California...Or was it the entire west coast of the US?! Or was it 1 of 7??? Hmm.. Now I can't remember anything the informative plaque said... Guuhrate.
Oh glory that only cost me $5! I'm in love! I had never been inside the lighthouse and didn't have a clue that there were also accessible tide pools at the park. Wham bam!
After visiting the lighthouse, Lovey and I drove down to the beach/tide pool access, hiked for a bit and sat on the edge of this cliff that jutted out over the water...But we only sat for about 30 seconds, cause we both got simultaneous and terrifying thoughts of huge waves (him) and or earthquakes (me) sweeping us off our perch. We're babies, Lovey and I.
Well, that's it for today, friends. I shall have one more San Diego post later this week...But if you're interested in seeing more of the Cabrillo Monument, please check out Stephanie's blog, Big Mario Life. She was there one week before us visiting from San Fran. Cool huh?
